Worship is not about us at all. Worship isn’t about guitars, or voices, or lack there of. Worship is about opening up a space of freedom for people to worship the Lord. It isn’t about us, it is all about God.
Worship isn’t about our emotions, our feelings, or our talents, worship is all about recognizing and expressing that God is God.
One thing that God has been teaching me during my time in Chichi is how to worship Him. I’m grateful as anything that I am surrounded by friends that like to call me higher. I’ve gotten the cool opportunity to lead worship on my guitar for different services and families that have come to New Generation Church.
Looking back I would have never thought that I would be getting to lead worship. I don’t see myself as the greatest guitar player or singer, and my minimal Spanish knowledge provides another hurdle to leading songs in Spanish. But you know what they say: “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
That truth has certainly been true for me. He called me to step into leading worship, and saying yes to that has lead to Him showing me how He is strength in my weakness. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God will step into the places where your ability leaves off.
I hate when people speak untrue things over themselves. Two statements that really make me sad is when someone says that they are either not good at praying or that they are not good at worshiping. There is no specific format for praying and there is no specific format for worshiping.
For both praying and worshiping, all God wants from you is your heart. Specifically regarding the idea of worship, God never said we needed to have what we might view through a worldly lens as great musical talent. Lifting up your praise to the Lord in whatever form that takes is seen by Him as a joyful noise.
One of my favorite verses in the the psalms is this: “My sacrifice, oh God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17).
All we have to offer the Lord is our hearts, and that is all that He truly wants from us.
How many times are you afraid to step into something because you feel as though you are not qualified?
Step into that thing, He will fill in the space, He knows what you are capable of because He created you. Offer up what you have to the Lord, He knows what He gave you!
